I'd prefer a smoother surface - one that doesn't grab and hold on to the leaves, twigs, etc. they occassionally bring into the house. As a side sleeper, even diapers leak so protecting the mattress is a big issue. In addition we have a very deep CA King mattress so it is hard to find anything with full coverage. As a child my bed was protected by the traditional "rubber sheet" which was always hot and when wet made a small accident into a large one. This product works well and absorbs a lot of liquid so the wet spot is contained to a reasonable size. Very satisfied user. We love the fact that this mattress pad covers the whole bed and this way no matter where she ends up on the bed it's covered by the mattress pad. I am purchasing more to have as a back-up.
