Children love these brightly colored and well-designed alarms from Malem. A small, ultra lightweight alarm is comfortably worn on the nightwear close to the shoulder. It weighs less than one ounce including batteries and even glows when sounding!

The alarm is connected to a clip-on moisture sensor which anchors to the outside of any close fitting underwear for boys or girls. Sensor contacts are within the clip so skin contact or sweating will not trigger the alarm.

Malem alarms are well constructed and durable, with sounds that wake children. Available with a single tone (red) or 8 separate tones (yellow) to prevent "audio accommodation" - getting used to one sound and tuning it out. A different non-selectable tone is activated each time the alarm is triggered on the yellow alarm. The alarm sounds continuously until the sensor is removed, allowing you or your child sufficient time to effectively respond to the alarm.

Included with every alarm are instructions for use, charts to track progress and one set of batteries. Uses 3 alkaline "button" style batteries per set (Eveready A76).

If you asked your child which alarm they would choose, this would be it! Kid's love the "cool" colors and design, and parents love the Easy-Clip sensor that children can easily clip onto the underwear themselves. This very small alarm is great for children less than eight.

Parents often ask if a single tone or 8 tone alarm work "better." Since there is no research to support the selection of one type over another, the choice is a personal one. Pure behaviorists would recommend a single tone alarm, while families whose children seem to "tune out" sounds quickly might choose a random tone alarm. Both alarms work well in alerting the child and family that they need to get up to go to the bathroom.

Do I need more than one sensor?
No, the Easy-clip sensor is simply reattached to clean underwear after wetting occurs.

How long do the batteries last?
One set of batteries lasts for about one hour of sounding time. In the beginning, more frequent wetting and slower response may require regular changing of batteries. As child improves and has less wetting, batteries do not have to be changed as often. Having an extra set on hand is recommended.

Where should I clip the sensor?
The Easy Clip sensor should be clipped to the outside of the underwear about where you think the first drops of moisture will appear. In general, clip the sensor to the front, outside of the underwear (y-fold area of a boys brief) for boys, and down lower towards the crotch area for girls.

I’m worried that my daughter will be scared of the loud sound. Any suggestions?
Most children sleep very soundly and may not even respond to the alarm. Practice with the alarm by turning it on and off before she goes to sleep so she realizes that it is just a reminder sound and not something that is scary.

We should have bought this LONG ago! This has been the greatest thing we could have gotten for my daughter. She is doing great and almost has bed wetting kicked. 10 days in a row now! We should have purchased this a long time ago! Satisfied in Kansas Amazing! My son is 6 1/2 and he has wet the bed since we potty trained him at age 2. He has been really bothered by it. We tried "sleepies" (night time underwear/diapers), waking him up every hour, not letting him have anything to drink 3 hours before bed. Nothing worked until my Dr. told me about enuresis and this alarm. It was such a Godsend. On night 1, he wet as normal and didn't wake up on his own. Night 2, he heard the alarm and got up after he wet, by night 3 he woke up with the alarm and only had a little urine on his underwear. His pj didnt even get wet. We are on week 4 and we haven't heard the alarm go off in about a week. He wakes up on his own to pee now!!!! Rufio So glad we tried this! We are very happy with the Malem alarm, and the results. My 7 year old son was still wearing pull-ups, he had some dry nights, but usually wet the pull up, sometimes, saturating the pull ups getting the sheets wet. We started using the the alarm 2 months after his 7th birthday. We attached the alarm to his underwear then put the pull up on top. The alarm did not wake him up at first, I would run to his room, get him out of bed. He would have already emptied his bladder in bed and we would have to change everything. We would wake up sometimes 2 times a night for the first 2 weeks. Then he started to wake up when the alarm went off, and stop the flow of urine, and finish in the toilet. At the beginning of week 6 he had 14 nights dry in a row so we started using the alarm every other day as recommended. He would almost make it 14 days dry (wearing every other night), then have an accident, and we would start the count over again. By week 11 he reached the goal of 14 dry nights in a row, wearing the alarm every other night. He stopped wearing the alarm, and had 2 accidents in the first month. But he would only have a small spot on his underwear and was able to wake up and finish in the toilet. After those first 2 accidents he has not had amy more and it has been 2 months. The alarm really works, I recommend reading the book, so you do not get discouraged, and know what to expect. It is a process, and you will be getting up in the middle of the night with your child, but it is worth it. My son is proud to be wearing underwear to bed. I am no longer worried, about his getting older and still wetting the bed and what that could do to his self-esteem. The alarm was recommended to us by our pedeatrician about 3 years ago and while I researched it at the time, I found it a bit costly for something she "surely will outgrow soon". Three years and many pull ups later, we finally gave it a shot. Mostly, because the alternative was medication.

I agree with most of the other reviews in that the device is a little clunky and has an old-fashion fastening mechanism. It does however go off on the smallest amount of wetness.
