You Can Go to the Potty (Sears Children Library)

When you were a baby, Mommy and Daddy had to help you with everything. Now you're growing up, and you can tell Mommy and Daddy when you are hungry, tired, and when you have to go pee-pee or poo-poo. You are even learning how to use a little potty! When you feel like you have to go, you can tell Mommy, "Go pee-pee!" and she will take you to the potty. With Mommy and Daddy's help, you will soon be wearing big-kid underpants, and you'll be able to use the big toilet all by yourself!

Potty learning is an exciting step in a child's development. But it can also be a confusing and frustrating time for both parent and child. Based on the foremost authorities on parenting and childcare, William Sears, MD, and Martha Sears, RN, this book clearly introduces the basic steps of toilet learning in a natural, non pressured way.

Intended for children ages two to five - with notes for parents and caregivers and a free poster. The text encourages a child’s motivation to use the toilet while offering tips to parents on developmental readiness and what to do about specific problems. This book welcomes the developmental process of toilet learning with support and understanding.

"We may think in terms of 'potty training' or 'potty teaching' or child, but from a child's point of view it is 'potty learning'. Timing is everything when it comes to starting the proactive phase of potty learning. The child must be not only physically and mentally ready, but emotionally ready as well. Some children, especially boys, may continue to be wet at night long after having complete daytime control. If your child reaches six years old and is still wet almost nightly, seek medical advice."

Great for wide range of ages.

Love all the Dr Sears books and this is no exception! Meets the child at his/her level without talking down to him/her. More detailed explanations in sidebars.
