Want Your Child to Be Dry All Night?

June 25, 2025 2 min read

Research indicates that bedwetting alarms continue to be the most effective method of helping children achieve dry nights. Bedwetting alarms can be curative, meaning once you are successful with the alarm, it is almost always true that you will stay dry.  This is much different than using medications; after stopping the pills, bedwetting restarts. This is also much different from walking your child to the bathroom on your schedule or setting an alarm clock for the same time each night.

To maximize success when using a bedwetting alarm, several things are recommended.

-It takes time, around three months, and it requires parental involvement.  It’s important to make the time commitment.

-The alarm tells you when the wetting happens.  It isn’t there to prevent the accident from happening.

-The alarm needs to be comfortable enough that it can worn every night, without complaint.

-The child needs to be involved, getting up to the bathroom when reminded and resetting the alarm before going back to sleep.

-You have to be consistent. Your body doesn’t learn by just using the alarm a few nights a week.

-Older kids ( 9 or 10) tend to be more motivated to make changes but alarms work for even 5 or 6 year olds who are bothered by wearing disposable pants and waking up wet.

-The bedwetting alarm needs to be loud enough for the parents to hear.  Children may not respond by themselves initially and may even sleep through the loud sound. Parents need to wake the child and help them get to the bathroom.

-The alarm needs to be one that the child can easily reset by himself during the night.

Bedwetting alarms are very effective if used properly. Research findings prove that 76% of children can achieve 14 consecutive dry nights when using a bedwetting alarm versus no treatment.
