Daytime Wetting: Private Pocket Protective Underwear

July 19, 2024 2 min read

Summer camps or even the start of school can bring about unexpected surprises, such as wetting or leaking in underwear while around other kids and friends. Your child’s humiliation CAN be curtailed while the root of the problem is being addressed. No parent wants their child to be embarrassed by obviously wet pants.

Kids who accidentally wet their pants would love to have emergency supplies available so they can discreetly change in the bathroom.  Having to tell the teacher or supervising adult is very embarrassing.  Wearing dark shorts or pants, a long shirt or pretending they sat in water is the only way some kids cope.

Discreet Protection

Now there are Private Pocket Underwear.  These reusable, washable underwear have little secret, hidden pockets to carry emergency supplies and back-up underwear.  Your child could even carry liners, wipes or medical supplies in the pocket. One of the pockets has a water-resistant lining that converts into a small pouch to carry the soiled underwear.

The best part of these underwear is other kids (or even adults) do not know they are different from regular underwear.  They come in kid friendly colors and patterns and are as comfortable as their regular underwear.

Other suggestions for daytime wetting:

Make sure your child takes their time in the bathroom.  Girls should spread their legs and wipe from front to back.  Make sure their clothing is easily removed, zipped, or buttoned.

Arrange with the teacher to have unlimited bathroom privileges and access to enough fluids.  Try to improve bathroom usability.

Start a timed voiding program.  This is when a child uses the bathroom every 2 hours, even if they don’t feel like they have to go.  Use a discreet vibratory reminder watch to remind kids of this. Don’t expect a busy teacher to do the reminding.

Be patient.  Know that support, and not punishment is more helpful.  Regular bathing and laundry can help kids stay odor free.

Reassure them that you will work together with their doctor on a solution to this problem and getting soiled clothing washed is the best action.  Kids don’t smell themselves so reasoning that they will address this because of the bad smell is not the case.
